maybe we can serve up something for all our viewers. there was a little bit of fog this morning, but other than that, things aren't too bad. looking at a day that's going to be a little bit warmer than yesterday and with a lot more sunshine. we are starting out this hour with 72 degrees annapolis. 72 at d.c. 66 at fredericksburg and 66 at dulles and 66 at manassas. midday, 84 degrees. not quite as humid today as it was yesterday. but we're looking at a daytime high that will take us into the upper 80s and the low 90s. we do have some changes coming, however, as we move through into the weekend. that's when we're going to see a little bit of a change. wet saturday on tap, but it's not a weekend washout. let's check in with julie wright. >> 395 where we're starting off with the crew in skyfox. traveling northbound on i-95. we find delays from the prince

william parkway, traffic is backing up in newing ton. 395 slow leaving the beltway led towards duke street. live over that scene with the heavy volume continuing towards landmark. no incidents to report, just volume delays. it's gridlocked headed northbound on 395. meanwhile, we have problems to report westbound on the freeway approaching main avenue. accident activity tying up the right side. delays inbound on the 295 and 11th street bridge southbound along 270. lanes open, but below speed out of hyattstown. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. thank you, julie. the democratic convention wrapped up in charlotte, north carolina last night with president obama's rousing speech. >> he of course accepted his renomination for president. nicole collins is live in

charlotte with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. with two months until the election day, president obama used last night to try to win over undecided voters and also to try and revive the excitement that powered his first presidential run. president obama making his case to voters that america is on the road to economic recovery, but he needs more time to make it happen. >> it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. >> reporter: the president, full of zingers, slammed mitt romney's policies. >> feel a cold coming on? take two tax cuts, roll back regulations and call us in the morning. >> reporter: vice president justice department also renominated thursday. >> one more thing, our republican opponents are just dead wrong about, america is not in decline. america is not in decline.

>> reporter: the president speaking in the rhetoric the country is now acustommed to, asked them to rally around goals. >> national education, and the deficit. >> reporter: he criticized republicans for being vague last week, but they say the president's speech fell short of the specifics the obama campaign promised. >> we know he can delivery lofty goals. that was part his attraction in 2008, but it's wearing thin. >> reporter: both candidates in iowa and new hampshire today before obama icks off a bus tour in florida this weekend. >> thank you very much. as nicole mentioned, both mitt romney and president obama are campaigning today. the president starts in new hampshire, along with the first lady and dr. jill biden.

tonight they all head to cedar rapids, iowa. mitt romney will be in new hampshire and paul ryan campaigns in nevada. mitt romney's wife is coming to northern virginia this morning, in leesburg at the twin oaks riding academy, for women for mitt. a lot of traffic. the rally starts before noon. we'll have coverage of that event tonight at 5:00. a d.c. police officer accused of making threatening remarks about the first lady this past july will not face criminal charges. the secret service says they found no evidence of a legitimate threat to the first lady, michelle obama. the d.c. police chapter says the incident is now considered an administration investigation. a check of this morning's other top stories, police involved shooting in prince george's county is under investigation. happened around 5:00 p.m.

yesterday on county road in district heights. the washington post reports the suspect is accused of trying to steal a motorcycle. police said the officer shot the man in the back to prevent him from running away. he was taken to a local hospital. the officer, an 8-year veteran, was not injured. he's been placed on routine administrative leave. a scandal allegedly rocking one local high school. >> "washington post" is reporting five dematha football players are no longer on the team after allegedly hiring prostitutes. fox5's sherri ly is live at the school with details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, allison. if the students arriving here today haven't heard about this, they likely will by the end of today. this happened in north carolina where the team was playing last week. they hired five prostitutes through a web site and snuck them into the hotel room.

the incident happen around 5:00 a.m. saturday morning. the five players involved were kicked off the team. two withdrew from school this week. two recommended for expulsion and one faces a disciplinary hearing today. they are accused of hiring three prostitutes from a call service after the final bed check, the team had 18 chaperones on the trip. another check done at 4:00 a.m., an hour before the alleged sexual encounter. the players were not starters on the team and aren't identified because they are minors. the school has not commented on the situation, saying that they cannot talk about discipline matters involving students. we have put in calls ourselves to the school as well as to the archdiocese to see if anyone has comment, but have not heard back so far. the team's next game is scheduled for tonight at the naval academy.

that's the latest in hyattsville, back to you. sherri, thank you. the district is reporting its first death from west nile virus. health officials say a second person hospitalized. these are the first two cases reported this year, but maryland has seen 21 cases and one death. in virginia, five cases, but no one has died. we have a former director of the d.c. department of health, and we'll join us live in the 8:00 hour with answers. tony? drivers may have to shell out more money to ride the dulles toll road. the transportation authority wants to increase the rates. last night drivers had a choice to voice their concerns in the first of three public meetings held by the mwaa. during the hearing many drivers told officials they feel the hikes are unfair. one driver is circulating a petition against the increase.

put it all together. not much to show you here. some of you saw a little bit of fog earlier this morning. but other than that, not much else going on. i don't have a lot of cloud coverage to show you. in fact, i don't have any clouds. we have a pretty good day ahead of us. temperature-wise, starting off fairly mild. 66 at gaithersburg, same as dulles, manassas and fredericksburg. 68 at baltimore. and 72 degrees at reagan national airport. yesterday's highs were a little bit lower than we anticipated. that's because of the cloud coverage and rain we got. the sun took a little while to get out. shouldn't be the case today. we're expecting to see mainly mostly sunny skies. futurecast wants to bring us a light shower betwe the 4:00 and 6:00 hour. so we'll watch that. this frontal system, which is going to start to progress and move its way across our area on saturday, because along it and lady of it we expect to see

showers and storms as we move into saturday. there is a chance of a little bit of wet weather in the early part of saturday, get a break. primarily the afternoon hours for quite a soaker here with these storms. we're going to have to keep our eyes to the skies with this system. this is a strong frontal system. here's a look at futurecast. today little bit of a light shower future cast wants to bring us around the 4:00, 5:00 hour here. primarily saturday is the day. look at this line of storms that will be moving through in the afternoon hours. it doesn't clear out of here. it's going to move across the eastern shore, delmarva and doesn't clear until we get into pretty much the overnight hours of sunday. a day to be concerned with. the storm prediction center has us under a slight risk for severe weather saturday. planning anything outside saturday afternoon, you'll want to pay attention to the weather and see how things are shaping up. here's a look at the seven-day

forecast. i'm really happy to tell you once we get past saturday, we are on a roll. we go to dry and pleasant with a few clouds sunday and monday, to just plain sunshine by the time we get into the beginning of the week. a break in humidity, and we get a break in the temperatures. i know, julie wright is looking at this forecast closely. >> i . and i love that. with the saturday. we want to clarify skyfox was over the new ramp that will open tomorrow from the dulles toll road to exit. the ramp will provide easier access for folks coming off the airport lanes to exit the outer and inner loop. traveling to and fro dulles a lot, you know inbound towards the capitol beltway, you have to make that mad dash to the left. no longer will that be the case. part of the hot line project will give you easier access to the inner and outer loop of the beltway inbound off the dulles toll road in the main line.

accident still in play, left lane getting by. delays off 295 and inbound 11th street bridge. route one to georgia avenue, 19 minute commute with all lanes opening. 395 continuing from the beltway to duke street, doesn't look too bad into the pentagon parking, but slowing after the pentagon headed to the 14th street bridge. all lanes there are open. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. after all we've been through, i don't believe that rolling back regulations on wall street will help the small business woman expand or the laid off construction worker keep his home. we have been there. we've tried that and we're not going back. we are moving forward, america. [ applause ] >> president barack obama accepted his party's nomination for president last night. in his address to the nation he conceded that it will take more than a few years to solve the challenges that have built up over decades. with reaction to the president's speech and the dnc,

we're joined by our friends former democratic congressman of illinois marty russo now ceo of russo capital strategies. good morning. >> good morning. >> and robert walker, former republican congressman of pennsylvania and now executive chairman of wechsler and walker pc. good morning. >> good morning. >> marty, let me start with you. overall impressions. convention. >> i think the democrats had the better convention than the republicans. i think the excitement was greater at the democratic convention. i think one of the things democrats did for the first time, we've learned from the republicans is how to do messaging. i think this time our messaging was far better than the republican messaging in tampa. it was a team effort. everything was kind of choreographyed the way you want it to be, leading up to michelle obama's speech, which i believe was a beautiful conversation with the american people. didn't look like she read the speech. i think bill clinton, what can i say about bill clinton.

i think he basically destroyed all the arguments the republicans had against president obama. i think president obama's speech was a humbling speech. it was a reality speech. when he made that line where he said, you know, things are different today than they were in 2008, i am the president. i held in my arms a mother and father who lost a son in afghanistan. i've spoke with and met with people who lost their job. it's the reality of the job. when you're a candidate running for something, you think you can solve the problems, you have the answers. but the truth of the matter is, the reality sets in when you become president. he's realized what a difference it is to be the president and the decisions you have to make. i thought it was an incredibly humbling speech. that's what i took from it. >> bob, you joined us from tampa and we do appreciate that. let me is your impressions of the dnc, not compared to the rnc, but in general your experience of this political season. >> i think the problem for the democrats coming out of their

convention is they had unforced errors. those gathered a lot of press, gathered a lot of attention. those are things that will be remembered off the convention. i had the same impression as marty about bill clinton's speech. and i thought jill biden's speech was -- joe biden's speech was good. i thought it was better than the president. the president gave a better speech, but i thought he came up short for this reason, he himself sid his economic record is incomplete. well, he confirmed that last night in his speech. that's what he was saying. i think for 23 million people who are unemployed, who have an average of 39 weeks now of unemployment compensation, incomplete is not good enough right now. and you cannot defend a record that says it's incomplete, give us more time. people have given them as much time as they're willing to give at the present time, and i think that is where the

evaluation is going to come down. >> marty, let me ask you that question, because you did hear basically, i inherited -- the thing the republicans say is the main criticism, we're tired of hearing i inherited this. what have you done in this amount of time? and the question that the gop has come up with now, the main question is, are you better off now than you were? how is that addressed? >> i think president clinton did a really good job responding to that. look, he even pointed out, look, basically i'm at 69% favorability, and as good as i am, i couldn't have done it. none of my predecessors could have solved this in four years. it was such a horrible mess we inherited. i think if you look at it, the best question is, is the country better off today? let's quit being selfish. is the country better off today? it is. we were hemorrhaging 750,000 jobs a month. we had this big crash that

could have brought down our banks and economic system. he came in with what president bush had done and shored up the bottom. like biden said, he put in a floor. would you like to do better? sure. but this is the worst experience in economic problem we have faced since the great depression. it's not easy turning it around. bob and i have been around when there were recessions and they were nothing like this. two years working together with the president, like president reagan, by the time '82 came around, we worked together to get it done. this is something we have never faced other than the great depression. i think you have to give the president and his people the credit for at least stopping the hemorrhaging and starting to put things in place that make us move forward. i think that's the key. now-- >> bob? >> people don't think you can stagnate. they don't think you can continue to do the same things that have failed and continue to do them over and over and over again.

and that's essentially what the president was offering last night. he offered no new proposals. he offered no new direction. and i think people were waiting to hear new direction from him and they didn't hear that. >> that has been brought up. tony and i were talking about this earlier, that some of the journalists listening and others are saying where was that moment in the president's speech last night? and i think bob, you mentioned the speech overall fell short, just as an american, forget about politics for a moment, did it fall short in that and the real beef of it, or the meat of what is going to happen, moving forward? >> i think both mitt romney's speech and the president's speech were pretty short on specifics. both of them talked a lot about the future and in generalities talked about how the american people have to move forward. but both candidates are going have to flesh out what they mean by that. what their programs are. and i think last night that

president obama instead of offering some new direction based upon his experience of the last three years, essentially said, last three years have been pretty good, folks, so give me more time. that's what he's run out of. he's run out of time. >> final word, marty? >> i think it's a choice election. you're going to have to make a choice between a vision of mitt romney and a vision of president obama. you know, he realized that once he became president how difficult it was. and i think at this point you have to make this decision, do you want someone who's lived the experience, or somebody who thinks he knows how to solve the problem? i'm remembered of a comment henry hyde used to make, do you want a guy who did a thousand brain surgeries to work on you, or someone who did one or two? in this case you have somebody who has lived it, experienced it and felt it, and realized it's much more difficult to solve that problem. >> i can't wait for the debates to start. >> the debates will be

a guilty verdict in the drew peterson murder trial. the former illinois police officer faces up to 60 years in prison after being convicted of killing his third wife, whose body was found in the bathtub in 2004. the death was initially ruled as an accident. it wasn't until his fourth wife, stacy peterson, disappeared in 2007 that authorities reopened that case. the trial was the first of its kind in the state because prosecutors based their case largely on hearsay. peterson's lawyers says everyone hates his client and the deck was stacked against

cds says this year's outbreak is the worst. maryland was 21 reported cases, virginia has five. the situation at home is nowhere near as bad as some places around the country. but that doesn't mean we're immune. joining us with more on how to protect yourself is former director of the d.c. department of health. thank you for coming in. >> good morning. good to be here. >> your reaction, are you alarmed at what's happening in this region with the increasing number of cases and now this death that we've had in the district? >> alarmed, no. concerned, yes. >> tell me -- we don't know much about this victim. my understanding is that he's male, he was male, and a senior citizen. do you know if that's the fact? >> that's my understanding as well. and i think with a lot of these we keep hearing the young and the elderly. so it's not surprising that when we do have someone who is impacted, they're in one of those two categories. it doesn't mean the rest of us

are not at risk and it doesn't mean that we should focus on individuals. these are people that are parts of families. so it's families and communities become aware, we protect and inform each other. >> why, why does it seem that younger and older people are more at risk? >> younger and older kind of identify those whose immune systems may not be as strong and able respond as those more in their adolescent, adult, young adult years. >> okay. what do we need to do as the public, i guess we shouldn't run around scared, but what should we do? >> we should run around informed and informing and motivating others. the guidance from the department of health is good, two things i would add. repairing things where mosquitos can get in. we talk about going outside and dawn and dusk. those are the times when they're more active.

but broken screens around the house. doors left open, as folks are running back and forth. these are things we should not only know by reading the guidance, but share, talk about them in schools. talk about them at church, synagogues, mosques. we need to make sure we engage each other and motivate each other, not just talk about, wow, there's someone who is ill. the person that's ill is a member of our community. if we protect our community, we can lessen the result of whatever comes at us, not just west nile, but other viruses. flu season comes around. same precautions. don't be uninformed and don't let others be uninformed. >> we all get mosquito bites from time to time. if i get a bite, what should i be looking for that makes me think i might want to go to a doctor? >> first of all, any sort of a bite can get infected. look to see if the area around is getting red and you're getting a lot of pain in that area and that redness is

spreading. that's anything that breaks the skin kind of a basic concern. with respect to west nile virus, three to 14 days you may see symptoms. the thing that lets us go, oh, don't worry about it, most people don't have symptoms and you don't spread it person to person. however, just don't get bitten by a mosquito. seriously. and focus on the ways to prevent that. a lot of good guidance. don't let standing water be around. protect yourself with repellent. fix the broken screens and broken doors. all of those things will help us be safe. but if you get a bite, it's probably just a mosquito bite. the overwhelming chance is, it's a bite, will itch, bother you. >> we'll make sure we have the guidelines on our web site, myfoxdc.com. dr.walks, good to have you here. >> great to be here. >> thank you very much. we appreciate it. >> my new perfume is deet, all

i'm going to say. our other big story, the august unemployment report. all eyes on the latest labor department numbers which could make or break president obama's post convention celebration. the jobless rate currently is at 8.3%. a good report would be good news for wall street, which sent key averages to their highest rates in almost four years. last night the president accepted his party's nomination and promised better days ahead for the american people. fox news correspondent nicole collins joins us live. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. president obama argued he saved the economy from disaster and it will be compromised if a republican end up in the white house. president obama making his case to voters that america is on the road to economic recovery, but he needs more time to make

it happen. >> it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. >> reporter: the president full of zingers, slammed mitt romney's policies. >> feel a cold coming on? take two tax cuts, roll back regulations and call us in the morning. >> reporter: vice president joe biden also renominated thursday. >> one more thing, our republican opponents are just dead wrong about, america is not in decline. america is not in decline. >> reporter: the president, speaking in the soaring rhetoric the country is now acustommed to, asked voters to rally around a set of goals he wants to achieve in a second term. >> goals in manufacturing, energy, education, national security, and the deficit. >> reporter: he criticized republicans for being vague at but they say the president's speech fell short of the specifics the obama campaign

[ romney ] i'm mitt romney and i approved this message. a prince george's county police officer is on leave and under investigation after reportedly shooting a suspect in the back. this happened around 5:00 yesterday on county road in district heights. the washington post is reporting the suspect was trying to steal a motorcycle. police say the officer opened fire to stop the suspect from running away. a local high school football team is getting a lot of attention this morning, but

it has nothing to do with how they play the game. >> according to the "washington post," five players from dematha high school are no longer to play after allegedly hiring prostitutes. sherri ly is live at the school in hyattsville with details. >> reporter: good morning. this incident has obviously touched a nerve here at dematha catholic high school. the five football players accused of hiring prostitutes after a game in north carolina last week. school official did tell me that they hope to have a statement here in the next few minutes. but so far this morning, have not spoken. the incident has sent a shock wave through the school this morning. the team is highly ranked and was in north carolina for a game last friday night. afterwards, the "washington post" reports five players used the internet to find a call service and hired three prostitutes they snuck into the hotel room. some of the players' sources say they were involved with

sexual activity. and all five were kicked off the team. a parent of a player involved complained to the post, asking where were the chaperones. 18 chaperones were on the trip. however, the incident happened after 5:00 a.m., after the 1:30 a.m. bed check and 4:00 a.m. hallway check. one of the players faces a disciplinary hearing today. two others withdrew from school this week and two others recommended for expulsion. the team has a game tonight at 7:00 at the naval academy. none of the accused players, according to the post, are starters. one staff member i spoke to a short time ago here at the school says it's disappointing what happened, and unfortunate for the other players on the team who really are good kids. as for concerns about the chaperones, he said you really can't expect them to be monitoring and guarding the hallways around the clock. you have to have some trust in

drivers are voicing their concerns over proposed toll hikes on the dulles toll road. last night during the first of three scheduled public hearings, drivers told officials from the airport authority that they feel rate increases were unfair. the airport authority's plan would double toll prices by 2015. drew peterson could spend the next 60 years in prison. yesterday a jury convicted the former illinois police officer for killing his third wife. he'll be sentenced in late november. prince harry showed up at a british army base in afghanistan late last night. he returned for a second tour of duty. he'll be there the next four months. his deployment follows an embarrassing incident when nude photos surfaced of him playing strip pool in a las vegas hotel room. can i just say, this is the second tour. he's pretty much done everything he's been asked to

70 gaithersburg. 70 annapolis. 75 at quantico. we are talking about a system that will be our big weather maker as we move through into tomorrow. it's a strong cold front that will cross. ahead of it and along it, we are talking about storms that will kick up. could see a little bit of rain activity in the early morning hours. primarily this is an afternoon event, where we could see very, very strong storms. we could be talking winds, could be talking possibility of even a lot of cloud to ground lightning with this. do be careful if you have plans for tomorrow, because the storms are definitely in the forecast. storm prediction center has placed us under a risk of severe weather. future cast wanting to give us a short passing shower heading into the afternoon hours of today. but saturday is the day when all the storms and rain will hit us by the afternoon. so just really be aware, because this entire area here could see very, very strong storms on saturday. for sunday we clear out nicely. get to sunshine. little cooler into the 80s and the rest of the week, absolutely beautiful.

>> taylor swift performed her new song "we are never, ever getting back together." and i heard that's about jake gyllenhaal. >> i love the title. >> she looked great, too. speaking of mtv, the dress lady gaga wore, you know, the one made of meat, is now on display in d.c. it will be part of an exhibit at the national museum of women in the arts. the dress has been dried, so it's really jerky dress, and painted. it includes an explanation of political message the singer intended with that outfit. >> because we need the explanation. thank you. one of america's favorite girlfriends is coming back to television. ricki lake, host of the ricki lake show, promises to cover matters that are of interest to the modern day woman. it kicks off september 10th, here on fox 5. first, ricki lake joins us live from los angeles. i want to point that out,

because it's 5:30 in the morning there. >> yeah, yeah, it is. but i'm so happy to be with you. >> we're happy you're here, too. welcome back to television. >> thank you. >> tell us about the new show. >> thank you. the new show is the elevated upgraded version of my old show. the catch phrase is, you're not the same person you were in the '90s and neither is she. the show is really, you know, sort of this new place in my life, and in many ways, i had no business back then in the day hosting my own show at 24 years old. i didn't know who i was. i didn't have any point of view and i feel like with age i've gotten to this place where i'm not exactly there yet, but i've figured a lot of stuff out. i'm grateful to be doing a show i think women will want to watch. >> i know the thinking here is that because women, women have always been able to relate to you and they've grown along with you on this journey. so i guess the thinking is they can still relate to, and you

can relate to the issues that they're going through? >> i've never pretended to be anything but who i am. i wear it on my sleeves and i've been candid. if that makes me relatable to my audience, i don't know what it is, but i'm grateful they're welcoming me back and we can learn together. the feel of the show is i am the everywoman. i've gone through a lot. and i want to have a community, a real conversation with all different types of people about how we can figure it all out, balance our lives and hopefully have a good time in the process. >> the reality is that obviously there's a glut of talk shows, daytime talk shows out there. what will distinguish, obviously you bring your own name and personality, what will distinguish your show from the others? >> i have been seen the other shows. a lot of the new shows haven't launched yet. for me, i don't really think about the other shows.

there's nothing i can do, the show katie couric is going to do, steve harvey, it will never be the shows we do. they're personality driven. in 1993 when i launched my first show, between 1993 and 2004, 11 years i was on the air, over 100 talk shows came and went. many of those were trying to duplicate what we were doing, the show for the younger audience. for me, i don't really pay attention. i know there's competition, but that's not my focus. my focus is producing the best show that i can for me and for the women that grew up watching me. primarily. men, too. but really it's thinking of a woman in her 20s to 60s, what does she want to watch in daytime? >> we look forward to it. you'll be on the air beginning monday. welcome back as i said before. >> thank you. >> we'll see you here on fox 5 mondays starts at 11:00 a.m. good to talk to you. >> thank you for having me. >> we'll see you again. still ahead, the new unemployment numbers are out. we'll tell you why they may be

welcome back. 8:40. the new jobless numbers are just in, and they show that the unemployment rate fell last month. employers only added 96,000 jobs in august, much less than expected. but the unemployment rate actually fell 2 percentage points to 8.1%. allison? a health warning for women. a common method for detecting breast cancer could raise the risk of developing it. it suggests the added radiation dose from a mammogram might be harmful for younger women whose genes put them at a higher risk for breast cancer. it suggests an mri is a safer alternative. a separate study out of new york says changing the position of the patient may reduce the risk of future health issues. i would suggest talking over that with your physician.

comment under lexi's picture. imagine you could be saving time and money. we are about to show you tips that will help in not only buying, but storing groceries to avoid spoilage and that awful freezer burn. for that we turn to terry gult, the founder of money saving site called thegrocerygame.com. good to see you again. >> good to see you. >> welcome back to the show. >> thank you. >> you'll talk about freezer burn later, right? >> we'll avoid that at all costs. >> you have a spread here. we're talking about ways to freeze our foods, basically so we can go to that freezer instead of running to the store every two hours. >> yes. to save the most on groceries, the best thing you can do is what i call investing and that means buying on sale, not waiting until you need it. then it will be twice as much

in twice. we turn it our freezer, the easiest thing is freeze is fresh fruit. this time of year we've got berries, peaches. they say you don't have to wash blueberries, but i do, i gently wash them in flowing water. lay them out to dry on a towel, whether it's raspberries, blackberries. lay them on a tray to freeze and put them into a plastic bag in the freezer and use them in smoothies or -- yogurt. >> i never thought about freezing that myself. >> peaches and nectarines are in season now. slice, pit and toss them in sugar until they get juicy, about 15 minutes and put them into the bags and freezer. >> if you can stand not eating a bowl right then.

all right. >> when we're buying meats and we're told our meat prices are going to go up, and it takes time for that to happen. we'll see it next year, but the end of this quarter. now meat prices will go up incrementally. every time you see the big picture on the front of of sales paper, this is what you would want to buy. don't just buy for this week. the package it comes in is good in the freezer as long as it doesn't have holes. if you want to be extra sure that nothing is going to get freezer burn, you would put it into a plastic bag as well. i always mark the date that i froze the meat, because then with a permanent marker in the freezer, then i know what it use it. the timing is different, depending on the meat. whole roast, whole chicken, will freeze longer than pieces of chicken or slices of pork chops. >> okay.

>> now you're freezing the price. >> we love that. >> when bread is on sale, it's half out of. a lot of times we have coupons. the worst thing you can do is put it in the freezer with this little twist tie. that won't make it air tight. first, work all the air out of the bag, making sure there are no holes. tie in a tight knot. mark it with the date that you froze it. most importantly with bread, look for ice crystals. that's where you'll get the freezer burn. as soon as you begin to see ice crystals forming, you have to use it for toast, make croutons, whatever you're going to make out of it. orange juice you can also freeze. things that are liquids. we buy orange juice on sale, even with coupons. a lot of times the date on the package is good up to six weeks and we would stock up. suddenly you didn't drink all of it. pour a little out in a glass, drink it. it's good for you. that allows for expansion in the carton and you can freeze

it. it will separate. thaw it in the fridgeover night, and shake it and it's all good. >> same for milk? >> will taste a little different. it's good for cooking and making sauces. i love to make home made mac and cheese with milk that's frozen. organic milk lasts longer. >> i have noticed that. we're out of time. tell me what this is. >> stock up on pantry items. you can't freeze anything with oil in it, such as cake mixes. the paper bag the flour comes in, put it in a plastic bag or anything in a box. holidays, winter holidays are the cheapest time of year on baking goods. you can freeze up for the year. >> i have so many questions. how did you become an expert? >> i love to save money. >> this is teri gault, ceo and founder of thegrocerygame.com. go to it for more tips. pleasure to have.
